The Weekly BizDev Review

IStock_000001244509XSmall A good post in today's Lifehack blog reminds me of one of the absolute basics of business development -- the weekly review. It keeps you on track, jogs your memory, and makes you more effective. This is something a lot of people let go by the boards, which is a mistake. The post goes into great detail about what the review is, how to do it, and why it matters. Check it out.

The concept, as far as I know, originated with productivity expert David Allen, who has a weekly task and productivity review as an integral part of his system. The point of it is that it's the best possible way to keep control of your activities, remember things, and remind yourself of your goals and progress. Here's how Allen describes it in one of his articles:

This is literally, blow-by-blow, what I do at least once a week. It is the one factor upon which your success with Mind Like Water technology hinges.Do it, it lives and grows. Don’t do it, it dies. If you don’t yet have this habit, then I recommend that you insert into your calendar for the next four Friday’s--”do weekly review”. Review this for the first couple of weeks, and then it will probably become second nature to you.

Take some time, every week, to check up on yourself. It will make an enormous difference.
